TRAVELER'S notebook Starter Kit, Regular Size

Leather cover, paper insert, elastic cord. That's the entire mechanism, and it's the reason this design has outlasted most of what it competes with. The cover carries no year, so it takes an undated insert or a dated diary refill interchangeably. Expect the leather to scuff and darken — the maker says its texture 'changes' the more you use it, which is a polite way of saying it will look used.

    MD Notebook

Midori leaves the cover blank on purpose — no logo, no title field, just cream board you're expected to write on yourself. Thread-stitched binding means it opens flat from the first page without cracking the spine. The paper is the draw: MD PAPER, the house stock, and the maker states no grammage for it anywhere on the page. Index stickers come in the box.

    Leuchtturm1917 Hardcover Notebook

Every page is numbered and the front carries a blank table of contents, which is the whole reason bullet-journal people default to this book rather than a prettier one. Paper is stated as '80–100 gsm FSC-certified' — a range, not a figure, because the weight shifts by format. Fill in the index as you go or the numbering does nothing for you.

    Moleskine Classic Notebook, Hard Cover

Ivory paper at 70 g/m², an elastic band, a ribbon marker and a gusseted pocket glued inside the back board — the format everyone else copied. Thin paper, so a wet fountain pen will show through; a fineliner or pencil is the safer pairing. Note that the grammage lives on this deep SKU page and not on the category listing above it.

Field Notes Original Kraft Memo Book

Three books to a pack, 48 pages each, 3½ by 5½ inches — sized to the back pocket of a pair of jeans and meant to be treated as disposable. Innards are Finch Paper Opaque Smooth 60#T. The kraft cover is uncoated and takes pencil beautifully; it also warps if it goes through a wash cycle, which it eventually will.

    Baron Fig Confidant Hardcover Notebook

Cloth over board, 192 pages, 5.4 by 7.7 inches, and the stated stock is 'Acid-free fine grain 90gsm paper'. It opens flat straight out of the shrinkwrap, which hardbacks in this size usually refuse to do for a month. The fabric cover picks up grease from hands and does not clean up, so keep it out of the kitchen.

Stalogy Editor's Series 365 Days Notebook

368 pages of thin grid, each one printed with a date line, a day-of-week line and an hour scale down the margin — A5 runs midnight to midnight, A6 stops at 8am to 9pm. Nothing is pre-filled with a year, so a book started in October is not wasted. Fill the date line by hand; skip it and the whole conceit collapses.

    Clairefontaine Koverbook Twin

The 'Twin' is two notebooks in one board: 80 large squared pages bound to 80 small squared pages you can tear out. Cover is transparent polypropylene with two pocket flaps. Paper is Clairefontaine's 90 g/m² stock, smooth enough that ink sits on top of it rather than feathering. A4+ size, so it will not fit a normal backpack sleeve.

    Passion Planner Weekly Undated Planner

Write your own dates in and the book starts whenever you open it — stop for three months, pick it up again, nothing is wasted. Stated stock is '120 GSM Paper', which is heavy for a planner. A goal spread up front asks you to break a long-term aim into steps, which is either the point of the thing or the part you skip.

    Field Notes Pitch Black Notebook

Two books per pack, 64 pages, 4¾ by 7½ inches — a size up from the memo book and closer to what fits a jacket pocket. Covers are French Paper Co. 118#C 'Pitch Black Duplex', innards Finch Opaque Smooth 60#T. Choose dot-graph or ruled at checkout; the two are not mixed in a pack, so decide before you order.

TRAVELER'S notebook 001 Lined Notebook Refill

Sixty-four pages of MD Paper, ruled at 6.5mm, 210 by 110 millimetres — the plain lined insert in the Regular Size range, numbered 001 in the maker's own catalogue. Slot it under the elastic in a leather cover, or use it bare; the stitched spine holds either way. No year is printed anywhere, so a stack of them keeps indefinitely.

    Full Focus Planner, Linen

Here is the catch, stated plainly on the maker's page: 'since the Full Focus Planner is built for a three-month achievement cycle, an annual subscription allows you to get four planners per year.' No year is printed on the book, so it is undated in the strict sense — but you will run out in a quarter. Paper is 'Cream, uncoated, 60#'.

    Filofax Monthly Planner, Letter 2027

Dated 2027, and that year is the whole point of buying it now rather than in March. Stock is '100 gsm ruled paper', heavier than most diary inserts, which is why fountain pen people put up with a monthly grid at all. One warning: the maker still lists a 2026 edition on the same collection page, and the product title does not always show the year. Check before ordering.

    Leuchtturm1917 Weekly Planner & Notebook 2027, 12 Months, Dotted

Left page a week, right page dotted blank — the hybrid that makes splitting this list into two lists impossible. Runs January to December 2027 on 80 g/m² paper. Here is the live hazard: the collection page it sits on still carries a 2026 title tag today, while the planners under it are 2027 editions. Read the product name, not the heading.

    Hobonichi Techo

Printed on Tomoe River paper, thin enough that a 365-day book stays pocket-sized, and since 2025 on the Sanzen-made successor stock called Tomoe River S. One full page per day, in A6 Original or the larger A5 Cousin. It is dated, so a 2027 book is dead weight in 2028. Routed to Wikipedia — the maker's own store pages could not be located in a readable form.
