The Best Country Albums of 2026
Country albums in 2026 came from the independent trade press and from Nashville radio, so rank them. Qualifying: a 2026 original studio album, no EPs, live sets, compilations or posthumous tapes, one per artist, whichever more mastheads recommended. Country by tradition and not by tag: honky-tonk, Appalachian, Texas, countrypolitan, Americana, bluegrass, Nashville radio. Bluegrass counts, the bluegrass list here being all-time rather than 2026. Two of the mastheads eligible for a record must have recommended it, counted by masthead: Saving Country Music, Country Universe, Don't Rock the Inbox. A masthead published before a record existed was never eligible, so every entry gives its denominator. A record later than all three needs six or more Album of the Year reviews instead, counted and not scored. An unidentifiable Spotify release does not ship. A record with eligible mastheads that all recommended it makes the upper band, everything else here goes below, and the sequence inside each band is yours. Links take Spotify's earliest edition, settled on track count and titles, not the printed date, and later releases enter the same way.

Land Of The Forgotten is the title song and sits fifth, with the fiddle and steel forward enough to place the record in the honky-tonk line rather than anywhere near a radio format.

Charlie Marie — Signs (2026)
Charlie Marie's eleven tracks are dated 5 June 2026, three days after Saving Country Music went to press, which leaves two eligible mastheads and both of them recommended it, two from two. Aspens in Alaska closes a record of retro honky-tonk with the reverb left wide open.

Emily Scott Robinson — Appalachia (2026)
Ten tracks dated 30 January 2026, recommended by all three of the mastheads eligible for it, three from three. The Fairest View is a duet with Lizzy Ross and leaves very little behind the two voices. Appalachian singing in the older sense, pitched closer to a porch than to a studio.

Billy Strings — So Much For Goodbyes (2026)
Sixteen tracks dated 28 August 2026, a fortnight after the last masthead went to press, which leaves a masthead count of zero from zero and puts the record in on six Album of the Year reviews standing at 87 when that page was read on 12 September 2026. Bluewater Breakdown is the string band instrumental, and the bluegrass on it is the Monroe lineage rather than a genre tag.

Kacey Musgraves — Middle of Nowhere (2026)
Thirteen tracks dated 1 May 2026, recommended by two of the three eligible mastheads. Rhinestoned is the countrypolitan cut, and rhinestones, strings and a Nashville budget are the tradition Musgraves keeps returning to rather than the one the independent trade press would pick for her.

Ella Langley — Dandelion (2026)
Eighteen tracks dated 10 April 2026 and recommended by two of the three eligible mastheads. It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels is the Kitty Wells side from 1952, an answer song then and a declaration of loyalty now. Nashville radio country, and a nineteen-track twin carries the same title and the same date, its extra song appended past the closing reprise.

Charley Crockett — Clovis (2026)
Fourteen tracks dated 24 April 2026, recommended by two of the three eligible mastheads. Don't Take Your Guns to Town is the Johnny Cash song played straight, honky-tonk with the western dust left on. A second fourteen-track Clovis exists whose tenth song is titled Don't Take Your Guns, so the track titles are what separate the two, and this is the carrier with the longer one.

Ashley McBryde — Wild (2026)
Ashley McBryde put out eleven tracks on 8 May 2026 and two of the three eligible mastheads recommended them. Ten to Midnight ends the record. She writes for Nashville radio and keeps landing a little outside it, with the fiddle and the steel doing more than decoration.

Queen Esther — Blackbirding (2026)
Twelve tracks dated 6 February 2026, recommended by two of the three eligible mastheads, and You're Gonna Get What's Coming is the last of them. Black Americana, and the instruments and the singing put it inside country's borders whatever tag a streaming service hangs on it.

The Deslondes — Don't Let It Die: Vol. 1 (2026)
The Deslondes' twelve tracks are dated 22 May 2026, recommended by two of the three eligible mastheads. Don't Let It Die closes the record with Sam Doores sharing the credit. New Orleans Americana, and their other 2026 album sits out under one per artist, this being the one both mastheads picked.

The Jayhawks — Sanctuary Park (2026)
Eleven tracks dated 28 August 2026, later than all three masthead deadlines, so the count is zero from zero and the way in is six Album of the Year reviews standing at 78 when that page was read on 12 September 2026. Sanctuary Park is the eighth song and the one the album is named after, Americana from a band that formed in Minneapolis in the middle 1980s.

Kashus Culpepper — Act I (2026)
Kashus Culpepper's eighteen tracks are dated 23 January 2026, with two of the three eligible mastheads recommending the album, and Cherry Rose closes it out. Americana with a soul singer's phrasing, and a separate EP called Act I: Summer Nights exists under its own id, the album being the eighteen-track record.

Fifteen tracks dated 20 February 2026, recommended by two of the three eligible mastheads, and Bells & Whistles (feat. Kacey Musgraves) is the collaboration. Nashville radio country, and a seventeen-track Cloud 9 also exists, dated 15 May, its two extra songs sitting after this one's closing track and one of them marked as a bonus.

Drought Flower runs eleven tracks, dated 3 April 2026, with two of the three eligible mastheads behind it, and Grand Canyon takes the record out. A Texas band playing Texas rooms, and the Red Dirt end of the state rather than the Nashville end of the business.

49 Winchester — Change Of Plans (2026)
Ten songs dated 15 May 2026, recommended by two of the three eligible mastheads, and Heavy Chevy is the one that ends it. A Virginia band out of the Appalachian bar circuit, filed as Americana by people who mean that kindly and as country by those who listen to the singing first.

Leah Blevins — All Dressed Up (2026)
Leah Blevins released ten tracks on 20 March 2026 and two of the three eligible mastheads recommended the album, with Centerfold closing it. Kentucky honky-tonk, and a single carrying the same title sits separately on Spotify under an id of its own, which makes the ten-track record the album.

Ryan Bingham — They Call Us The Lucky Ones (2026)
Made with the Texas Gentlemen, who are co-credited on the album, ten tracks dated 15 May 2026, two of the three eligible mastheads recommended it, and I'm a Goin' Nowhere sits last. Bingham has been arguing the Texas side of this since his first records in the 2000s.

Braxton Keith — Real Damn Deal (2026)
Braxton Keith's fifteen tracks landed on 15 May 2026 with two of the three eligible mastheads behind them, and Baby You Do closes the album. Young Texas country with the drums up and the fiddle still in the mix, which is the commercial end of the Red Dirt argument rather than the songwriter end.

Joshua Ray Walker — Ain't Dead Yet (2026)
Joshua Ray Walker's ten tracks are dated 29 May 2026, recommended by two of the three eligible mastheads. Ain't Dead Yet opens the record and gives it a title that means what it says: Walker has been singing through a cancer diagnosis since 2024. Texas songwriting, and a voice that goes up where most country singers duck.

The Kruse Brothers' twelve tracks are dated 23 January 2026, with two of the three eligible mastheads behind them. Tulsa County Jail sits third. Honky-tonk played without a wink, two brothers and a band who would have cut the same record in 1974, and whether that reads as conviction or as costume is the argument their reviews keep having.
