    Live Oak Brewing Co.

Since 1997 the brewery has run what its own site calls "an old-world style of brewing rarely found in America" — and Pilz is the proof. It is a Bohemian pilsner, decoction-mashed with a single heirloom variety Moravian malt, which is a slow and expensive way to make a 4.7% beer. Drink it at the Del Valle taproom, next to the disc golf course.

    Saint Arnold Brewing Company

Texas' oldest craft brewery says so on its own about page, and dates itself precisely — "Our first keg of beer was shipped on June 9, 1994." The Fifth Ward site is a beer garden and restaurant now, with a Small Batch Series the brewery says is "not available anywhere else" running alongside the year-round taps. Start with Art Car IPA and let the small-batch board decide the second round.

    Real Ale Brewing Co.

Phillip and Diane Conner started brewing in 1996 in the basement of an antique shop on the Blanco square, according to the company's own story page, and the brewery turned thirty in April 2026 with a party at its Highway 281 site. Firemans #4 is the blonde ale that pays for everything else, and it drinks better in Blanco than out of a bottle in Houston.

    Peticolas Brewing Company

A Dallas trial lawyer quit law for a brewery in the Design District, and the site still calls it "his own family run brewery" — Michael Peticolas brews it, his family runs it, and nobody upstream owns a share. Velvet Hammer is the imperial red that made the name, and it is mostly what the Saturday queue on Pace Street is there for.

    Austin Beerworks

"We self distribute every can and keg so we can oversee our beer from 'tanks to taps,'" the brewery page says, which in Texas is a deliberately hard way to run a business — and the reason the cans taste fresher than they have any right to. Pearl Snap is the pilsner the whole city defaults to. Order it, then work along the rest of the Springdale Road tap wall.

    Maple Branch Craft Brewery

Opened in October 2020 by Stuart and Alyssa Maples, who call it "a small, family-owned business," the Fort Worth taproom runs over twenty beers, all brewed in-house. The reason to drive west is the style list — Rivers of Regensburg is a roggenbier, and it sits on the same board as a Polish grodziskie, a Kentucky common and a Belgian tripel.

    Equal Parts Brewing

Second Ward, and the site is blunt about the history — "Yes, this brewery was originally called Sigma." It has been brewing on Harrisburg Boulevard since 2016 and changed the name because, as the story page puts it, "so many others had contributed so much." Dadpils is the one to order: a corn lager, which sounds like a joke and is not.

    Celestial Beerworks

Behind the age gate on the website sits a link to NASA's Kids' Club — which tells you most of what you need to know about the tone. Matt and Molly Reynolds brew at 2530 Butler Street in Dallas, an industrial pocket well off any tourist route. Space Juice is the hazy IPA that built the following, with a rotating wall of one-offs beside it.

    Zilker Brewing Co.

Patrick and Forrest Clark and Marco Rodriguez were high-school friends who turned a 2008 garage hobby into a proper East Austin brewery and taproom in 2015 — the story page lays out the years in between. Marco IPA carries a founder's name, which tells you how small this started. It is the beer to order at 1701 East 6th Street.

    Künstler Brewing

One brewpub, two owners, and an ownership statement that runs to a single sentence: "We are Vera and Brent Deckard, Künstler Brewing's owners and brewers." It sits at 302 East Lachapelle on San Antonio's south side, Bavarian-leaning brewing with European food to match. Guava Gose is the fan favourite there and the correct order on a hot afternoon.

    DeadBeach Brewery

El Paso's longest-running craft brewery says so itself: "With over seven years in operation, we are the longest running craft brewery in El Paso, Texas." It opened in 2015 at the foot of the Franklin Mountains. Chuco Lager is the one that explains the place — a 4.1% helles named after the city's own nickname, built for heat.

    Altstadt Brewery

Fredericksburg's German inheritance gets taken literally on Highway 290: the beers are "handcrafted to old world standards inspired by the Reinheitsgebot," made with imported ingredients and Texas water. Prickly Pear Radler is where the two halves of that sentence meet — a 3.2% shandy that is unmistakably Hill Country and unmistakably German at the same time.

    Galveston Island Brewing

Founded in June 2014 on Stewart Road, a few blocks off the seawall, this one carries a claim its own about page makes out loud — Tiki Wheat has been "Deemed the Official Beer of Galveston." Owners Mark and Liesel Dell'Osso brew it as an American wheat with German Hallertau hops and a dose of coriander. Drink it with sand still on your feet.

    False Idol Brewing

North Richland Hills is not where you would go looking for a serious tap wall, which is rather the point. Established as an idea in 2014 and as a brand in 2018, the brewery opened its Maplewood Avenue room in 2020. Brass Bell ESB is the tell — an English bitter sharing a board with a barrel-aged peanut butter marshmallow imperial stout.

    Eureka Heights Brew Co.

Named for the fault system running under the building, which is a genuinely strange thing to call a brewery after, the Houston Heights taproom stacks more than twenty-five pinball machines against the tanks. Buckle Bunny is the cream ale it sells most of — 4.5%, in line with a house rule that the year-round beers stay "crisp, flavorful and (mostly) low alcohol."
