Plant-based sushi sounds like a compromise right up until the shiitake gyoza lands. The Guadalupe Street room states it flatly on its homepage — "We are an all plant-based Japanese restaurant offering a variety of deluxe sushi rolls, nigiri, ramens, curry, desserts and more" — and it's a proper sit-down dinner, with sake and wine by the bottle. Service starts at 5pm and it takes reservations.

Open 7am to 8:30pm on a green lot off Toomey Road, "every day, including all holidays," which almost nothing else in this city manages. Food comes as one fixed daily spread instead of a menu: "The main plate will always come with a grain, legume, dark leafy greens, topped with a sauce, Mixed veggies, and pickled veggies." No processed oils — and no choosing.

Out on Research Boulevard, in a strip-mall suite, a kitchen that calls itself "Austin's first 100% plant-based restaurant" and makes its own faux meats instead of buying them in. Started in May 2010 and still trading. "Austin's longest standing, family owned and operated, plant based food trailer moved into a building in 2020 and is thriving," reads the site, which is a lot of survival for one sentence. Manchaca Road is the address now, with a second spot on Southern Oaks Drive. Order the freeto burrito. The site still flies a Best Vegan Burrito award from 2013, and nobody has felt the need to take it down.

Late-night trailer food that happens to contain no animal at all — the menu line is "Our menu is 100% plant-based," and it covers the whole board. The Bac'n Cheeze Burger stacks house-made seitan bac'n and melted cheeze onto a soy-free, gluten-free patty, and it lands at 1am exactly as intended. Check which bar lot the truck is sitting in before you set out.

Opened in Tarrytown in April 2026, the brick-and-mortar life of a trailer that began by frying mushrooms. Its own line: "Fried chicken, burnt ends, mac and cheeze, and Sunday brunch — all made from plants." The burnt ends justify the drive west on their own. And there's draft beer and cocktails, which is why Taproom is in the name.

Chef-driven cooking out of a trailer, which is far more normal in this city than it sounds. The site's own wording: "Serving up elevated vegan cuisine with an emphasis on quality ingredients and attention to detail." Find it at 701 E 53rd Street, Wednesday through Saturday, 3pm to 9pm — four evenings a week and that's your lot. The BBQ seitan sandwich is what people come for.

After years of shifting between lots this one finally settled — "our new home at 801 Tillery St.," the site says, 8am to 8pm daily. Cooking here is unprocessed to the point of stubbornness: sea moss gel, einkorn sourdough, tortillas milled from ancient grains. Get the Lucky Squash Party bowl. The banner across the homepage reads "100% PLANT BASED."

Run by "a group of local Buddhist Nuns and volunteers," per the truck's own words, from a food park on West Parmer Lane in North Austin. Thursday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm, and that's the whole week — plan around it or miss it. The lemongrass seitan banh mi is the one to chase, with a salty lemonade if the jug is out.

A pizza window inside a bar, and that's the whole operation. The page says "We have moved to Tweedy's 2908 Fruth St in Central Austin" and describes itself as a vegan pizzeria. Slices arrive New York wide and floppy. Ask for the Beeteroni 'n Cheese, whose beet pepperoni curls and crisps at the edges the way the real article does.
