    Alice in Chains

All four sources able to name Alice in Chains did, and through the 2026 ballot the band has not been a Performer nominee once, though Axios dates its eligibility to 2016. Paul Rachman shot the "Man in the Box" video on 16mm in what is supposedly a barn, where a hooded man prowls with a flashlight; when the hood comes down, his eyelids are sewn shut.

    Pixies

All five sources name Pixies, every one of them able to, and the band reaches 2026 without a single Performer ballot. The official upload is two songs in one clip, a compromise: Elektra wanted a "Dig for Fire" video, while Francis called that song a "bad Talking Heads imitation" and pushed for "Allison". So the band ride in motorcycle sidecars for the first, then play the second live on the field of Amsterdam's Olympisch Stadion.

    Sonic Youth

Every snub list counted here names Sonic Youth, all five of them able to, yet a band Axios calls eligible since 2008 has had no Performer ballot through 2026. Tamra Davis modelled the "Kool Thing" video on LL Cool J's "Going Back to Cali", black-and-white camera and go-go dancers included, and Chuck D appears in it. Kim Gordon wanted to wear a beret and carry an Uzi; Geffen vetoed that.

    The Smashing Pumpkins

Loudwire's gallery, Consequence, Axios and Alan Cross name the Smashing Pumpkins, 4 of the 4 sources able to, yet the band has gone without a Performer ballot through 2026. Jonathan Dayton, with Valerie Faris, filmed the "1979" video as a day of bored suburban teenagers in a 1972 Dodge Charger with Illinois plates, though the mountains behind it are Californian. Billy Corgan called it "the closest we've ever come to realizing everything we wanted".

    The Smiths

Four of the five sources able to name the Smiths did, and the band's two Performer ballots, for 2015 and 2016, are all it has had through 2026. Sire made an unauthorised "How Soon Is Now?" video, Paula Greif and Richard Levine co-directing, intercutting the band live with an industrial part of a city and a girl dancing whose identity is unknown. Morrissey called it "this degrading video", and it now sits on the Smiths' official channel.

    Brian Eno

Inducted with Roxy Music in 2019 but not under his own name, Eno has had no Performer ballot through 2026, and he is on the Consequence, Axios, Cross and Glide lists, 4 of the 5 sources able to name him. Jun Hanamoto-Hearn's 2024 video for "Stiff", a song from the pulled 1991 album My Squelchy Life, cuts a sunset over the sea in among Eno footage from the early 1990s that Gary Hustwit unearthed making the film Eno.

    Motörhead

Motörhead had one Performer nomination, for 2020, and none since through 2026, while Consequence, Axios, Cross and Townsquare name the band, 4 of the 5 sources able to. The "Ace of Spades" single, issued 17 October 1980, reached 15 in the UK and charted again, at 13, in January 2016. In the official video Lemmy sings up into a microphone set uncommonly high, the way he set it on stage.

    Jane's Addiction

Two Performer ballots, for 2017 and 2024, are all Jane's Addiction has had through 2026, and 4 of the 5 sources able to name the band did. Casey Niccoli, Perry Farrell's creative partner then, directed "Been Caught Stealing", which shows people, the band included, shoplifting at a Venice, California grocery store. It won Best Alternative Video at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards, and the single spent four weeks atop Billboard's Modern Rock chart.

    Television

Glide, Consequence and Alan Cross name Television, 3 of the 5 sources able to, while the Hall has put the band on no Performer ballot through 2026's. The link is the label-delivered audio of "Marquee Moon", playing over a still of the album's cover, Robert Mapplethorpe's photo, with Tom Verlaine a step ahead of his bandmates. The band chose an altered colour photocopy of that photo over the original print.

    John Coltrane

Axios has John Coltrane eligible since 1986, and Consequence, Axios and Glide name him, 3 of the 5 sources able to, yet the Hall has not put him on a Performer ballot through 2026. The link is the label-delivered audio of the first part of A Love Supreme, Acknowledgement, over Bob Thiele's cover photo. A second known live tape of the suite, from Seattle's Penthouse on 2 October 1965, came out in 2021.

    Ronnie James Dio

No Performer ballot through 2026 has carried Ronnie James Dio, though Consequence argues he "should have been inducted with Black Sabbath in 2006"; Consequence, Cross and Townsquare name him, 3 of the 5 sources able to. Arthur Ellis filmed the video for his band Dio's "Holy Diver" in a burnt-out church, St Mark's in Silvertown, east London, with Dio as a sword-wielding barbarian who turns a shrouded figure with an axe, and his hobgoblin servants, into rats.

    King Crimson

King Crimson's Performer ballot count through 2026 is zero, and Consequence, Axios and the Townsquare galleries name the band, 3 of the 5 sources able to. The official "Heartbeat" video, for the 1982 single, opens on a man at a desk sketching a face that comes to life, stars Jill Kroesen, and blends one face into another with a dissolve that the band's own upload notes Godley & Creme's "Cry" used in 1985.

    Thin Lizzy

Thin Lizzy got onto one Performer ballot, for 2020, and no other through 2026; Consequence, Axios and Loudwire's gallery make 3 of the 5 sources able to name the band. In the official video, "Whiskey in the Jar" unfolds in black-and-white comic-strip panels, a cartoon Phil Lynott on bass among them, and flashes the single's Decca label. That 1972 single held the top of the Irish chart for 17 weeks and reached 6 in Britain in 1973.

    Mariah Carey

Three straight Performer ballots, for 2024, 2025 and 2026, have not got Mariah Carey in, and Consequence and Axios name her, 2 of the 4 sources able to. She directed the "Fantasy" video herself, her debut behind the camera, rollerblading through Playland Amusement Park in Rye, New York, and riding the Dragon Coaster, its wooden roller coaster. The single, out 23 August 1995, was the first by a woman to enter the Hot 100 at number one.

    Bad Brains

Consequence and Loudwire's gallery both name Bad Brains, 2 of the 5 sources able to, and the band's single Performer ballot, for 2017, is the only one through 2026. The official video for the June 1980 single is Barry Masterson's footage of the band at CBGB on 24 October 1979, posted by Trust Records, which partnered with the band on its recorded music and visual rights in December 2025.

    Devo

Devo sat on three Performer ballots, for 2019, 2021 and 2022, without getting in; Consequence and Alan Cross name the band, 2 of the 5 sources able to. The "Whip It" video is set on a dude ranch, the band playing in a cattle pen while Mothersbaugh's whip seems to strip a woman's clothes off; they were tied to fishing line and pulled away after each crack. The whip did knock the cigarette holder out of her mouth.

    Björk

Björk turns up on Consequence's list and Alan Cross's, 2 of the 5 sources able to name her, and through 2026 she has had no Performer ballot. "Human Behaviour", out 7 June 1993, was her first video with Michel Gondry: a toy bear menaces a hunter and trails her through a forest, she lands on the Moon dressed as an astronaut to plant a Soviet flag, and sings the end of the song inside the bear's stomach.

    The Replacements

The Replacements' one Performer ballot, for 2014, is all they have had through 2026, and Axios and Ultimate Classic Rock make 2 of the 5 sources able to name them. Randy Skinner's "Bastards of Young" video points the camera at a speaker in his apartment and slowly pulls back to a listener smoking a cigarette, who kicks it when the song ends. A dog in the background, at $500 a day, was the costliest part of the $10,000 budget.

    De La Soul

Consequence and Axios name De La Soul, 2 of the 5 sources able to, and through 2026 the trio has had no Performer ballot. Charles Stone III's "Me Myself and I" video stages them in a satirical classroom, where a disciplinarian teacher pushes rap clichés they reject and a classmate writes "De La Sucks" on the bathroom wall. The March 1989 single stalled at 34 on Billboard's pop chart, yet led the magazine's R&B listing.

Daft Punk have had no Performer ballot through 2026, and Consequence and Axios name the duo, 2 of the 4 sources able to. Michel Gondry's "Around the World" video sets five groups on a platform representing a vinyl record, each standing for an instrument: robots for the vocals, athletes with small prosthetic heads for the bass, skeletons for the guitar, mummies for the drum machine and synchronised swimmers for the keyboard.

    Jethro Tull

Townsquare's galleries and Axios name Jethro Tull, 2 of the 5 sources able to, and through 2026 the band has had no Performer ballot. Jethro Tull's animated video for "Aqualung", the title track that opens the 1971 album, keeps coming back to a park bench. Ian Anderson has said the song started from a photograph his wife at the time, Jennie Franks, took of a tramp in London.

    Beck

Beck's one Performer ballot, for 2022, is the only one through 2026, and Axios and Loudwire's gallery name him, 2 of the 4 sources able to. His friend Steve Hanft directed the "Loser" video, and Geffen gave Hanft $14,000 to finish it, $14,300 all in; it includes stop-motion footage of a moving coffin. Bong Load first put the song out as a 12-inch on 8 March 1993.

    Alanis Morissette

Alan Cross in 2019 and Axios in 2024 both named Alanis Morissette, 2 of the 4 sources able to, and through 2026 she has had no Performer ballot. Stéphane Sednaoui filmed "Ironic" on the snowy streets of Brooklyn, Morissette driving through a winter landscape while playing every passenger, a fourth version of her in the front seat in a red sweater. The video won three of its six nominations at the 1996 MTV awards.

    Tool

Tool appears in Consequence's ranking and Loudwire's gallery, 2 of the 4 sources able to name the band, and it has had no Performer ballot through 2026. Fred Stuhr directed the official "Sober" video in 1993, animated frame by frame with figures Adam Jones designed: a small humanoid being lives and sleeps in an abandoned mansion, and the band appears only in brief flashes.
